I grew up in Chicago where snow in the winter was part of the magic.  I moved to AZ 25 years ago — and frankly I always felt a little bad that my kids didn’t have that magic in their lives.  I took them to Flagstaff and back to Chicago a lot, but still, they didn’t get the magic of snow.

Well you can enjoy a little of the magic of snow on my website.  From now until school begins after break you will see snow falling on my website.  Your computer is not having problems.  I am sharing the magic.

Grab some hot chocolate (with marshmallows) and ENJOY!

Gather up your pennies (you may need more than 100). Put one piece of aluminum foil measuring 12 x 18 inches on the table in front of you.   Add two straws.

Make a boat from the supplied materials (note: you cannot use anything besides yourselves and the materials provided — you cannot use scissors). Then, fill your sink with water. Put pennies in the boat until it sinks or flips. Count how many pennies the boat can hold. Send me the pictures and the results and you’ll receive bonus points.

Centennial students, send your pictures and results to nancyfootehigley@gmail.com by Saturday December 12, 2009 at 8 PM, (thanks Alexia!).
